Norm  Leslie

Norm Leslie began playing harmonica in the late sixties with school friend and guitar picker Steve Hopper.
In 1969, jug band Mud evolved and played for 3 years, including the regularly packed Saturday night at the Governor Broome Hotel in Northbridge. Mud comprised Richard French (vocals, mandolin), Fred Kuhnl (tea-chest base, jug, vocals), Scott Wise (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Johnny Johnston (washboard, percussion), Steve Hopper (guitar, banjo) and Norm (vocals, harmonica, accordion).

Following the demise of Mud in 1972, Norm again joined Steve Hopper in Duck Soup, playing blues and rag time with vocalist Cat Critch, Owen Hughes (bass) plus brother and sister team, Peter Vincent (drums) and Amanda Vincent
(piano, accordion).

In the late 70s, Duck Soup had morphed into the Penguins, with brothers Ralph (keyboards) and Ian (drums) James replacing the Vincents, and including Dave Llewellyn (guitar).

Since the 80s, Norm has played in a number of bands, often formed around and including the musicians above and others, including the Vanguards, Three Slips and a Gully, Recliner Rockers.

Norm currently plays with Jane Germaine and the Yahoos, featuring Jane (vocals, guitar), Ian Simpson (banjo, guitar, vocals), John Reed (cittern, mandolin, vocals), Fred Kuhnl (bass), Reuben Kooperman (drums); and the Hiltones with John, Reuben and Fred supporting Peter Woodward (vocals, guitar) or Pete Stone (vocals, piano).

The Hiltones can be enjoyed at the Hilton Park Bowling and Recreation Club on many a Friday night.
