Andrew Pring
( Blew Drew )
Blew Drew has been passionate about music most of his life, but only took up playing later in life after being inspired by power-blues band, Blue Shaddy. He immediately started lessons with Graham ‘Belly’ Mc Cleland the band’s harmonica player and soon started playing open mic nights with other aspiring musicians. One of his first collaborations was with guitar virtuoso Craig Sinclair who included Drew’s harmonica on his first album. Barely 18 months after his first encounter with Blue Shaddy, Drew was with them on stage performing live.
Drew’s next project was with rapidly rising star Matt Gresham; this duo enjoyed a lengthy successful residency at the Orient Hotel in Fremantle, and also a popular fortnightly Sunday session at Settlers Tavern in Margaret River. Drew has taken every opportunity to play with as many performers as possible and has been fortunate to play alongside some international stars including Michael Franti, and Jeff Martin from the Tea Party. He also gets calls from visiting national touring acts and regularly shares the stage with Lloyd Spiegel and The Hussy Hicks.
In the Perth music scene Drew is a much sought after musician. He plays regularly as a multi instrumentalist with Dilip and the Dav's, exchanging between harmonica, melodica, lap steel guitar, a range of percussion instruments as well as harmony vocals.
Drew has a distinctive playing style that is immediately apparent. Be it heart felt melodies, driving rhythm or power blues, his passion for music is clear and strong.
Besides performing, Drew is also heavily involved with the promotion of quality local music. He established the Fremantle Blues and Roots Club in early 2008 and it has been running successfully every Wednesday night at Mojos in North Fremantle. He also arranges tours for bands across WA.
